Oh, Yes, I Did Too Go There.

by debi9kids on July 18, 2010

I believe I have a very unique perspective on racism and lately my stomach has been turning over the backwards and disgusting direction this country is going.
It’s as if the clocks are being turned backward and there seems to be nothing we can do but watch as it crashes around us.

I have had ENOUGH!

I am colorblind and I teach ALL of my children to be colorblind as well.

I’ll admit I know not everyone does the same, but in our home, it’s a necessity.

I have been asked by people many times what I’ve answered my children when they ask why one child is different from another and my answer is ALWAYS the same…. my children NEVER ask.
Ever.

I have never been the kind of person to focus on what makes our family different.
We focus on what makes us the same….
The beautiful blessing of this life from our God.

And as I sit here seething over being called a racist because my family & I are members of the Tea Party I am stumped at how to explain this to my children. (and PS, here’s a hint, you can’t make comments like this and then say,” Oh, I didn’t mean you or your family. I just mean every single person you consider to be your friend.” and it be ok with me. You insult me, my family or my friends, I take issue.)

Racism:
Main Entry: rac·ism
Pronunciation: \ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-\
Function: noun
Date: 1933
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

Well, yes, that does sound like my family.
And, that seems to be EXACTLY why we went to Washington DC to protest.
We weren’t carrying signs about the government stealing our childrens’ futures.
Nope.
We were carrying signs about how my children are superior to yours.

Of course, never mind that my children look like yours.
And it doesn’t matter what race you are.
Because my children are your race.

I don’t know why race is an issue now when it hasn’t been for years.
I traveled across the country with my family, far up north into states like Wyoming & Nebraska and deep in the south to places like Arizona & Texas and NOT A SINGLE TIME was race an issue.
Not Once.

Yet today, all you can see on the TV is racism and it’s sickening.
And, I refuse to allow my children to grow up with racism.
REFUSE.

I will fight with everything in me to preserve this world my children live in and I hope you will as well.
For all of our children.
No matter what race they are.

We are all the same.
God’s children.
All of us.
As it is written.

For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. ~ Colossians 1:16
