I originally posted this in March of 2008 when I first found the recipe and as I have been manually transferring my posts*, I came upon my post and thought it was too good not to share again 🙂
Ok, so I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was last night when I sat down to watch some DVR’d episodes of Jon & Kate Plus 8 and one of them showed Kate making edible play-dough for her kids for Valentine’s Day.
I have been searching for this recipe for a while now and have found a few that were “similar” but none seemed to come out the right consistency.
We used to make edible play-dough back when Henry & Teddy were little to use for them for occupational therapy tools and they loved it. I loved it just because all little kids have the
unstoppable need to eat every last bite curiosity to taste everything. But, sadly, I had lost the recipe and really wanted to be able to make it for the babies to use to work on strengthening their hand muscles.
So, imagine my
insane euphoria excitement when Kate gave the recipe…It’s just equal parts powdered milk, peanut butter & honey.
But, if you are like me and have no honey in the house or are paranoid about giving it to your little ones, you can use clear Karo syrup. (I added a little bit of flour as well to thicken it up a bit)
* If you have a little one with peanut allergies (hint hint Terri), you can use Tahini Paste. Just check with your allergist before taking my word though 😉
And, here they are, happily playing with it (and sneaking a few bites here & there as well)(if you look real close, Em has a mouthful in the 1st pic of her and Will has a mouthful in the last pic of him)
I stored the extra in an airtight container in the fridge and found it to be even better for playing when it was a little cold.
*and yes, with over 2000 blog posts during a 6 year blogging span, it is taking me a LONG time. (and don’t even get me started on transferring the comments. ack!)
