TREK yourself, before you wreck yourself

by debi9kids on April 23, 2012

Today is Alex’s birthday,
his fifteenth.
(even though he seems more like he’s 150 sometimes)
Wise, I mean.

Alex seriously is wise beyond his years and in honor of his birthday, I thought I might take a page out of his life book…
He is an optimist to the core, having read The Secret a few years ago and applying it to everything in his life. He is constantly reminding me that life is what we make of it and sometimes, to an annoying fault 😉

But, I must admit, it must be an amazing way to view life.

I bought Alex this shirt for part of his birthday present and gave it to him last night.
The words, while funny because it includes Spock (one of his “heroes”), are perfect for Alex.
He believes in stopping and making sure he is viewing everything positively.

Isn’t that awesome?!?
I mean, how many times have you wished you had just done something differently?
Said something a different way?
Approached a situation with a more open mind?
How nice it must be to not second guess,
to be certain you’ve made the right choice, or statement, the first time.

The confidence my son exudes is amazing,
and inspiring.

Because, honestly, I am the queen of second-guessing.
To a fault.
I try to be positive, but lately, I have been such a pessimist that I annoy even myself.
I’ve made it almost a goal to look for the negative in all situations and…
it’s a depressing, depressing way to live.

So, for Alex,
because of Alex,
I am going to make every effort to change that,
to find my optimism.
again.

Because, frankly,
I have a home,
I have a family,
amazing kids that make me proud beyond words,
we are healthy (mostly),
my marriage is healthy,
and I am loved.

What more can I ask for?

Happy Birthday to my amazing optimistic son!
You inspire me, Alex.

Josiah is a definite sunny-side-up type too! 🙂 Reminds me of a little rhyme (forgive me if you've heard it)

Two stared out from prison bars

One saw mud

The other stars!

Praying we find the strength and courage to look for the stars!

Happy Birthday, Alex!

What a great post! Happy Birthday Alex! I'm not a Trek fan by any means…but that saying "Check yourself before you wreck yourself" is a mainstay in our classroom! ha!!!
