Sadly, for the past two days, Will has been really sick.
And, because he hasn’t been feeling well, it completely changed our plans for celebrating Keith’s 11th birthday.
We were going to go to a local amusement park and then out to dinner, but instead, we celebrated his birthday quietly and will do the outings when Will is feeling better.
I didn’t, however, want Keith to feel slighted, so I decided I would take just Keith and Emma out to lunch yesterday at Keith’s choice – Friendly’s.
Turns out that a lunch date with just Emma and I was exactly what Keith wanted most of all anyway…
(they both loved their Shirley Temples
And the icecream! My goodness! It was delicious!
And of course, Keith’s favorite part was that his ice cream was brought out to him by the entire staff singing “Happy Birthday” along with balloons, thus making him “famous” < his words. LOL
After lunch, we did go home and just hung out at the house,
Later, enjoying BBQ that Russ cooked, including Jersey fresh corn on the cob and tomatoes! (a favorite and deeply missed treat since moving to PA)
Of course, dinner HAD to be followed by another cake for Keith, because the cake 2 days ago wasn’t enough

It wasn’t the perfect planned party I wanted to do for Keith, but in the end, it was a perfect day for him.

And, for a Way Back Whens-day… I thought it would be fun to share a picture of Keith celebrating an early birthday
These photos were taken in July 2003, when Keith was celebrating his 2nd birthday.
How time has flown!
(These photos are particularly precious to me because my Nana is in them and as we are preparing our family for losing her to cancer, I have been reflecting on how so very fortunate we have been to be blessed with having my grandmother in our lives for so long.)
Happy happy Bday to Keith. It does look like a perfect lunch
sometimes just time with Mama is enough! Cool kids Debi! Hope Will is on the mend. By the way your cake looks amazing.
Thanks Tracey. He is feeling MUCH better today. Thank God.
We actually decided a couple of years ago NOT to take the WHOLE family out to dinner for birthdays, because the kids have dinner with the WHOLE family every.single.night. So, Papa & Mama take just a couple of kids out to dinner for birthdays, and then we go bowling. We then come HOME to a full party with all of the siblings.
It has worked GREAT, and is much nicer on our very limited budget (due to 18 months now of much unemployment).
Looks like a FUN day.
Laurel
yep. It is certainly MUCH cheaper
(and honestly, I enjoyed the one-on-one , or two as it were, too. )
Keith is the cutest (famous) thing! And I am loving Emma’s hair!!!
Hope Will continues to feel better. I know how hard it is to lose a grandmother~ I lost both my grandmothers five years ago, just three months apart. But, like you, I am constantly aware of how blessed I am to have had 42 years with them. My son-in-law had lost all four of his grandparents~ and his only brother~ before he was 21. That’s rough!!!
Praying your Nana won’t suffer and y’all will be comforted when that time comes. Both of mine went peacefully and had a wonderful last day alive. God is merciful!
Happy Birthday Keith!! What an infectious smile he has. Glad that despite the change of plans he had such a great day. He looks so incredibly thrilled to be with his sister and enjoying all that ice cream! Prayers to you all in this tough time of losing your Nana. Cancer sucks
But praying for peace and relief to her suffering and comfort to all those that love her.
Awwwww! Looks like a perfect lunch date with Keith and Emma! Happy Birthday to Keith – his brilliant smile is proof positive it was exactly what he wanted/needed.
And I love that he was ‘famous’ – that’s how Princess Nagger would have looked at all that attention.
Hope Will is feeling better soon!
Awww….Happy Birthday Keith!!!
Poor Will…praying he gets better soon.
So fun! Happy Birthday, Keith!
Happy Birthday to your sweet little Keith! It looks, and sounds, like the perfect birthday! Glad to hear Will’s feeling better!
thanks and you and me both
