As hurricane Sandy makes her way through our part of PA, after hours and hours of wind and rain, we are feeling very thankful here that no one we love was hurt and that everyone is safe.
A good portion of my family lives down in southern New Jersey and it’s been a stressful two days worrying about them and watching and waiting for messages to come through to let us know they were alright.(they are)
One of my very dear twin mama friends that lives in northern NJ lost her home but she has amazed us all with her resilience, reminding us that the safety of her four children was all that mattered.
Tonight after dinner, Russ leaves to head down to Atlantic City, to begin his part of the clean-up and recovery. This was the first time in twenty years that he was not working during a natural disaster.
While it was comforting for me to not ride out the storm alone with the kids it was stressful for Russ to not know how his buddies were doing and wishing there was something more he could do to help.
I will worry, as I always do, as he puts himself in harms way, but am proud as well, to know he will be there, cleaning up the city we loved so much as dating twenty-somethings.
It’s heartbreaking to see the flood waters and the damage that has been done to my childhood neighborhood and I will certainly be praying for everyone who lost so much yesterday.
